You may ask, why "Chat'd'Or" ? what does it mean ?
While the direct translation is "Cat(s) of Gold"- which well describes the Oriental's "golden" personality - the original idea is based on the French saying: "J'adore" which means "I adore"....... Oriental Cats, of course!
The Oriental Shorthair belongs to the same family as the Siamese, both originally from the ancient kingdom of Siam, or today's Thailand..... The Oriental is therefore very similar to the Siamese, the main difference being the color of the coat. While the Siamese coat is always a shade of "ivory" with colored "points", the Oriental's coat can be a range of different colors, which are spread out on all of its body (either uniform or bi-color, and also in beautiful tabby patterns).
Like the Siamese, the Oriental has a graceful and elegant body with a long tail, and short, silky fur. The face has the shape of a triangle with very large ears and a long, thin nose (as straight as possible). The eyes are ideally deep green & almond-shaped, except for the Foreign White, with blue eyes (like the Siamese).
The beauty and elegance of the Oriental cat is even more appreciated because of his "golden" and unique personality. While the Oriental is a lively, curious, and very intelligent cat, he is also very sociable, gentle and loving, and he loves to talk ! He needs to be included in everyday family activities and claims a lot of attention from his master....Above all, the Oriental hates to be left alone, especially behind a closed door (and he will tell you)!
If you have not yet had the pleasure to share your home with an Oriental, once you discover this elegant cat (& thus inevitably fall in love with the race), you will undoubtedly never be able to live without him !
